MAKING A TASSEL
Tassels are fun embellishments that add texture and movement to any design. Learn how to make your own tassels with our fun and easy technique!

MATERIALS: Nylon Thread, Scissors, Beading Needles
You can pretty much use any cord or thread you wish to make a tassel.

PROCEDURE
Step 1: Decide the length you want your tassel to be. Since I will be wrapping the thread around my fingers I figured out that two fingers would be perfect for an inch long tassel. Wrap the thread loosely around your fingers at least 15 times. (The more wraps you create the thicker your tassel will be.)

Step 2: Once you are satisfied with the amount of wraps you have. You can trim the thread attached to the spool.

Step 3: Then carefully pull the wrapped thread from your fingers (or card stock) making sure to keep it looped.

Step 4: Cut a second pieces of thread about 2 inches long. This will hold the tassel loops in place at the top of the tassel.

Step 5: Guide the 2 inch piece of thread through the top of the loop created in step 3.

Step 6: Pull that piece of thread tight and straighten out the loops of the tassel. If you make the thread smooth now, the top of your tassel will look smoother at the end.

Step 7: Make a single knot at the top of the tassel.

Step 8: Make a second knot at the top of the tassel. This is called a square knot. You can see how to make one here.

Step 9: Cut a third piece of thread. This will be used to wrap around your tassel so it needs to be pretty long depending on how many wraps you want. I suggested at least 12 inches.

Step 10: Pull the tassel so it flattens out and all the threads are laying smoothly side by side.

Step 11: Take the thread you cut from step 9 and knot it around the tassel, near the top. Leave one side long and the other side the same length as the tassel.

Step 12: Pull the long side of the knotted thread up besides the top part of the tassel so it runs parallel to all other threads.

Step 13: Loop that thread under the tassel. Then loop it over the tassel. Continue in this way, under and over, at least 5 times, to create a secure wrap around the top part of your tassel.

Step 14: Thread the long end of the thread from Step 9 with a needle.

Step 15: Guide the needle underneath the wraps made in Step 13 to secure the loose thread. You can then trim this so it's the same length as the tassel.

Step 16: Your tassel is now constructed so trim the threads from Step 13.

Step 17: Trim through the loop you made in Step 3, so all the threads are now loose from each other.

Step 18: Trim the bottom of your tassel to even the thread lengths out.
Viola! You have made a pretty little tassel!
